Living Without Magazine

While standing in the Whole Foods check out line, I noticed an interesting magazine on the stand in front of me.  It's called Living Without and it's dedicated to people with food allergies or sensitivities.  Fantastic!  A lot of the information is for subscribers only, but you can sign up for a weekly e-letter that includes a free allergy friendly recipe!   Check it out for yourself!

Questions from Customers

I love attending craft fairs because I get to meet customers and answer their questions!  A few questions kept coming up so I thought I would answer them here for everyone!

Do your allergy-friendly foods taste like the non allergy-friendly version?
Good question!!  One of my missions is to produce allergy-friendly foods that everyone will enjoy, regardless of their diets.  As a result, I have tested and retested my recipes, hosted "taste testing" events and worked hard to use quality ingredients that make my food the best.  My dairy-free items are just as moist, rich and delicious as their dairy versions, if not more!

Egg free and dairy free items, such as the oatmeal cookies or egg free cakes, are yummy and rich!  My secret is potato starch and vegan butter.  These substitutions make my egg and dairy free products an enticing treat for everyone to enjoy.

Customers were most concerned about the taste of my gluten free products.  I used to be the same way! Luckily, after several attempts, I believe I have come up with delicious gluten free recipes that everyone can enjoy!  Can you tell the difference between my gluten free peanut butter cookies and those with gluten?  Well, maybe a little, but they are still moist and delicious.  In fact, my gluten free peanut butter cookies were given to a group of men who ate the whole box without even realizing the cookies were allergy-friendly!

Our priority is to make treats that everyone can eat and enjoy!  We want those with allergies to be able to enjoy delicious high quality desserts but we also want their friends and family to eat and enjoy them as well!  We are always interested in your feedback!

How do you prepare your food to avoid contamination?
Eliminating cross contamination is our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY during baking.  We thoroughly clean bowls, utensils, cookie sheets, equipment, ect. in between each baking session.  We also keep the flour in a separate location from the gluten free flour.  With that said, this is a home bakery where flour, nuts, eggs, milk and other allergens are processed.

Can you bake a gluten free cake?
Yes!  We take special orders so if you have a question about a product, just contact us and we'd be happy to help!

Your cookies are cheap but don't you think your cake and cupcake prices are a bit high?
We admit you can go to a grocery store and order a cake for half the cost of one of ours.  However, ours offer the peace of mind that comes with allergy-friendly foods.  In order to make these treats as delicious as they are, we use high quality ingredients that are a bit more expensive.  However, as our small business grows, we hope to be able to lower the cost of our cakes.

Do you have items for resale?
We hope to one day be able to branch out and offer our items at location businesses.  However, we are not a home inspected kitchen....yet!  Virginia law allows us to sell at craft shows, farmer's markets and to individuals.  We are not permitted to sell out of Virginia or to offer our items as a resale product.  We are working on getting our kitchen home inspected and when this occurs, we hope for big changes in our company's selling abilities!

Thank you to everyone who was interested in learning more about The Allergy-Friendly Baker LLC.  If you have a question, please email us at theafbaker@gmail.com
